NEW YORK, May 13, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Newsweek, a premier weekly news magazine owned by IBT Media, today announced nine new additions to its staff including Weekend Editor, John Seeley; Culture Editor, Cady Drell; Staff Writer, Michele Richinick; Staff Writer, Jessica Firger; Politics Correspondent, Emily Cadei; Copy Chief, Elizabeth Rhodes; Social Media and Engagement Editor, Shefali S. Kulkarni; Deputy Social Media and Engagement Editor, Iva Dixit, and Producer, Joanna Brenner. They will all be based out of Newsweek's New York offices with the exception of Cadei who will be based in Washington, D.C.

We're growing our copy department, we hired someone to ensure that Newsweek's content is presented optimally on each platform, and of course, we're growing our editorial team across different beats as well as on social media."
New additions to the team:
- John Seeley joins Newsweek as Weekend Editor, running the website over the weekend, while also helping with the magazine and editing web stories and longer features. Seeley previously worked at The Wall Street Journal, where he launched and edited the Greater New York section, in addition to The New York Sun, BusinessWeek and Advertising Age.
- Cady Drell is now Culture Editor overseeing Newsweek's culture coverage including the arts, music and television. Drell joins from Rolling Stone and has also held positions at DigBoston and WERS.org.
- Michele Richinick comes to Newsweek from MSNBC where she covered breaking news across a wide variety of topics. In her new role as staff writer, she will handle early morning breaking news, in addition to news throughout the day. Richinick previously worked at The Boston Globe, NBC News and Boston.com.
- Jessica Firger will help grow the health beat for Newsweek at a time when health and medicine are increasingly important. Most recently Firger was the health editor at CBSnews.com and she has previously worked Everyday Health and The Wall Street Journal. Her work has also appeared in TheNew York Times and Daily News.
- Emily Cadei joins the team as Politics Correspondent and will spearhead Newsweek's day-to-day coverage of politics, with a focus on the 2016 presidential election. Cadei was previously an editor and writer at Ozy, but also spent years covering Congress and foreign policy for CQ Roll Call. Her articles have been published by CNN, The Economist Intelligence Unit, Foreign Policy, Fortune, NPR, USAToday and The New Republic.
- Elizabeth Rhodes takes on the new role of Copy Chief and will manage style and consistency across all of Newsweek. Rhodes was previously Copy Chief at Vocativ and has also worked at Health, All You and InStyle.
- Heading up Newsweek's new social media team is Shefali S. Kulkarni who joins as Social Media and Engagement Editor. Kulkarni most recently worked at Public Radio International's The World and previously worked at Reuters, Kaiser Health News, Newsweek/The Daily Beast and The Village Voice.
- Iva Dixit has joined the social media team as Deputy Social Media and Engagement Editor. Prior to joining Newsweek, she worked with The Economist, coordinating digital production on video and social strategy for their programming and live events. She has also worked at Forbes, the International Center for Journalists, BBC Worldwide in New Delhi and ELLE India Magazine.
- Joanna Brenner comes to Newsweek as a producer, and will be responsible for the presentation of editorial content across all platforms in addition to helping the growing web team publish dozens of stories each day. Brenner comes to Newsweek from the Pew Research Center where she was an associate digital producer and has also held positions at Foundation for Individual Rights in Education and Student Press Law Center.
